چکیده

We present Very Large Array observations at λ = 3.5 cm of the nearby young star TW Hya that show the emission is constant in time over weeks, months and years, and spatially resolved with peak brightness temperature ∼ 10 K at ∼ 0. ′′ 25 (15 AU) resolution. These features are naturally explained if the emission mechanism at this wavelength is thermal emission from dust particles in the disk surrounding the star. To account quantitatively for the observations, we construct a self-consistent accretion disk model that incorporates a population of centimeter size particles that matches the long wavelength spectrum and spatial distribution. A substantial mass fraction of orbiting particles in the TW Hya disk must have agglomerated to centimeter size. These data provide the first clear indication that dust emission from protoplanetary disks may be observed at centimeter wavelengths, and that changes in the spectral slope of the dust emission may be detected, providing constraints on dust evolution and the planet formation process.

Disks around the Young Stars Tw Hya and Hd 100546 Imaged at 3.4 Millimeters with the Australia Telescope Compact Array

We present observations of the young stars TW Hya and HD 100546 made with the Australia Telescope Compact Array at 89 GHz with ∼ 2 ′′ resolution and ∼ 3 mJy continuum sensitivity. Compact thermal dust continuum emission is detected from disks surrounding both stars. HD 100546 also shows hints of extended emission, presumably a residual protostellar envelope, which is also visible in scattered l...

Line Emission from Gas in Optically Thick Dust Disks around Young Stars

We present self-consistent models of gas in optically-thick dusty disks and calculate its thermal, density and chemical structure. The models focus on an accurate treatment of the upper layers where line emission originates, and at radii & 0.7 AU. Although our models are applicable to stars of any mass, we present here only results around ∼ 1M⊙ stars where we have varied dust properties, X-ray ...

VLA Imaging of the Disk Surrounding the Nearby Young Star TW Hydrae.

The TW Hydrae system is perhaps the closest analog to the early solar nebula. We have used the Very Large Array to image TW Hya at wavelengths of 7 mm and 3.6 cm with resolutions of 0&farcs;1 ( approximately 5 AU) and 1&farcs;0 ( approximately 50 AU), respectively. The 7 mm emission is extended and appears dominated by a dusty disk of radius greater than 50 AU surrounding the star. The 3.6 cm e...

A search for evolved dust in Herbig Ae stars

We present observations of six isolated, pre-main-sequence, intermediate mass stars selected for shallow spectra at submillimeter wavelengths at 1.3, 2.6, 7.0, and 36 millimeters from the IRAM PdBI and the VLA. We analyze the new observations of these stars (HD34282, HD35187, HD142666, HD143006, HD150193, HD163296) together with similar observations of three additional stars from the literature...

Submillimeter lines from circumstellar disks around pre-main sequence stars

Observations of submillimeter lines of CO, HCO, HCN and their isotopes from circumstellar disks around low mass pre-main sequence stars are presented. CO lines up to J=6→5, and HCO and HCN lines up to J=4→3, are detected from the disks around LkCa 15 and TW Hya. These lines originate from levels with higher excitation temperatures and critical densities than studied before. Combined with interf...
